What is Montessori?

Updated: Feb 10, 2019

Montessori is an open-minded and positive approach to education which focuses on developing each individual child to their full potential. This is achieved by giving the child freedom within carefully planned and consistently re-inforced ground rules. The freedom allows the child to make constructive choices of the Montessori materials and activities, consequently developing motivation, concentration, self-reliance and self-discipline. The Montessori teacher acts as a facilitator in the classroom, gently guiding and directing the child.

The children take an active part in caring for their school and each other. This promotes an atmosphere of respect for others and for the environment in general. We aim to prepare the children to take their place in society and to contribute positively to the world around them.
